Since I lacked the ability to regulate my emotions, I turned to alcohol to numb them altogether. Even through the haze of alcohol, I could see that reacting with anger was painful for those around me and ultimately harmful to myself. Learning to recognize where the anger stemmed from and how to react differently was a key part of achieving and maintaining sobriety.
